2008 has been the longest 2 years of my life

I had dinner with the lovely Liz Brown and Liza Johnson last night, wherein we discussed the year past, as I hadn't really caught up with the latter of the Ls in about that long.

The three of us realized after talking about all that's happened this year, that 2009 never happened! It's just been one long 2008. In every realm: comics, literature, music, movies, TV, even celebrity news, content has been a continuation of the narrative of 2008. Repackaged backlists, retrospectives, sequels, spin-offs... It's like 2009 has been a "best of" attempt: nostalgic and backward-looking.

Ever since the election, since Lehman Brothers tanked, since the republicans got sent home with their tails between cloven hooves, we've been drawing out the summer romance of a promising future. It's like 2008 was so glorious but because it ended so quickly we had to reinforce its importance by stagnating all creative development.

And then the avatars of our 1980s pop culture all pop off. How convenient.

In November 2008, people said this economic crisis was a global impetus to creative revolution. I have only been incubating. It feels great. Like a pregnancy without the social-sexual significance. But when are we gonna pop?

When the f**k is this baby going to come out of our collective vaginas?!?!

Get 'em!

My latest and greatest translation. I'm particularly proud of this baby. Totally not gonna give it up for adoption.
