What do I do with my books?

I have hundreds of books I’ve recently decided to get rid of. More accurately, I’m getting rid of approximately half of my inventory. The half that made my library a plenary wall of colors. Science fiction was cheaper than art, and memoirs were slightly more sophisticated than plastic wood. Not anymore.

So I’m willing to give some of it away, for the sake of convenience. I won’t sell off my stoop because I am scared of my stoop. But if anyone has bright suggestions, I’m all ears.

What do I do with my books?

Maybe you can donate the books to a local library.

I did this recently. In the end the best I could do was donate them to the public library. They run a tiny used bookstore, where I visit the books and think about buying them back.

Check out paperbackswap.com: I've used this site for a few years now when I want to get rid of books (you can get both hardcover and softcover, despite the site name).
You basically post your books for others to request. As you send books out you get credits to use towards requesting books other site members want to give away. But if you have A LOT of books to get rid of this might not be the best way to do it. Donating to the local library is good (as for a receipt/printed statement from the library acknowledging the donation so you can get a tax deduction).

Or you could create your own library at the Lake Carmel house? You're bound to end up there soon anyway...

Wow. Paperbackswap is kind of genius. Thanks for the tip, Brendon!

Otherwise yeah, what's left is up for grabs or going to the local library or turning into furniture. Ha!
