Awesome:

In a bold bid to take the traditional art of origami beyond the Final Frontier, Japan is planning to release a huge squadron of paper aeroplanes in outer space.

The need for Japan to bury time capsules in the earth, launch balloons into the air, messages in bottles into the sea, and now, this the final arbitrary pollution frontier, origami into outer space continues to astound me. I want to throw a hissy fit about all those plastic bags I'm not using. Is it so that there will be more room for ORGANIZED pollution. There was a great to-do here the other day when a 10-year-old message attached to a balloon which had got caught on a fish ended up on some shore. The letter was returned to the sender with great pomp and ceremony. Stuff like that floats up onto the beaches in Niigata all the time and they just come plow it away. What is the difference?! It's so funny. I never even thought of it that way. I always forget space is still an environment, and it definitely needs to be respected and protected. Good call, Deborah.
